Another Windows 7 build has leaked. This time it's build 7229. Sources are indicating that unless there is a leak internally from Microsoft, this would be last build leaked before the RTM. The build string is 7229.0.090604-1901 meaning that it was compiled a week ago. Earlier this week, build 7227 leaked to the public.

Initial reports indicate that you can not use your RC keys with this build, so if you want to activate properly you should not upgrade to this build.

Windows 7 is still on track for a July RTM, and it's possible that it may even RTM by the end of June. Microsoft has announced that it will be available in stores October 22nd.

yes, use any RC keys (mentioned above) to activate online.

this is the last build which can be activated using RC keys. after this build there would be RTM escrow build which might not accept the beta/rc keys.

Just a comment, build 7232 is already leaked so if you have build 7201 i would wait for the RTM to be leaked there really cranking out builds even i have probs keeping up with all the builds but there is not much diff between 7201 and 7229 except for driver improvments and small bug fixes.

How long will the beta/rc keys function for? Will I need to do a full re-install in 6 months?

You cant reinstall when it expires, this is RC and will function until june next year - but then the RTM Windows 7 has been out for more than 6 months, so it doesnt matter anyway. Enjoy this RC till Ocober 22, nothing more nothing less, and its free!!!

No, I meant will I have to scrap this version and do a full install when RTM comes out. Or can I keep using this version. No point installing it if I have to scrap it and do another full install of RTM in 6 months or less.

Yes you have to scrap this RC version -it will notify you when its time to install RTM....shutting down randomly and in the end it closes permanent...june 2010

can you upgrade the RC to RTM later or do you have to re-install RTM from scratch?

You probably have to re-install from stratch. Best idea is to back up all your software on another disk so that once you install the RTM, you can renovate it immediately. But as long as you keep the files on your computer, it's fine, goes in windows.old.
