I actually bought this and I was 100% disappointed. I was going to go to one of her workshops and this purchased changed my mind. It's all common sense and what I have done with every newborn I've photographed.

I'm actually quite pissed off that she has "the pose" in her guide WITHOUT a composite. Showing off as if to say 'yeah, I can do it without anyone holding'... Some of THE most professional / famous newborn photographers won't do this shot without a composite for newborn safety reasons and would never recommend people do it by trying to simply balance. Now here's Rachel telling people it can be done? Half the people purchasing this guide will be nowhere NEAR experienced enough to attempt this pose as a composite, let alone by balancing. Absolutely ridiculous. If I'd have purchased this she'd hear about how irresponsible putting that in her guide was. Geeze.

Also, WTF? I agree, this is pretty much all common sense "newborns are tiny so don't buy big headbands" duH! and "bright coloured blankets will cause colourcast", oh really? Haha. So glad I didn't purchase!

That said, has she released the newborn editing guide she mentions in the guide?

I'm unsure if she has published that as yet. It also KILLS ME to see photographers who attempt the head on hands shot without using composite. I have a good few downloads from youtube of guides/tips for this if anyone would like them? Or I can just link you to view the vid's.

I reported the video to youtube a few weeks ago and nothing has been done to remove it, this made me sooooo sick to my tummy watching it. Get a load of how this fool operates and yet she calls herself a professional!!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bP87GV4VvJU&feature=related

Something like this encourages moms and newbies to work this way as they dont realise the safety, hard work, digital editing and effort involved in getting that shot! If you have a moment please drop them a complaint to try get that removed, maybe one small voice is not good enough to get their attention.

Haha yeah, I saw that video advertised recently and was like 'wtf' it goes for 45 minutes. So ridiculous! I'd like to view it to see if there's much to it but I doubt there would be!

What do you expect when they are charging $45 for an 8x10? I have seen $350 for a maternity session. The price of this guide is the same as the rest. It's the going rate for photography literature. Thanks for the upload Stommistress. It's great for someone that is just starting out.

Heyyyy everyone! It's Rachel :) Hope you're enjoying my guide for free!

I just want to clear up some things..the original guide DOES have "the pose" as a composite, but I've since changed my stance (maybe I should make another post on that!) and changed that page in the guide. The new add-on WILL have only the composite.

Even though y'all are cheating me, I still want those babies to be safe, k? Only do that pose a composite.

sugarvp-I'm upfront about what is in the guide. Tips for before hand, and steps for five poses. And I list them. I truly am sorry that you're unhappy.

studioflash - not trying to really make money off of this. people wanted it, I made it. If I never sell another one, I'll be okay. :)

Enjoy, guys.

Rachel I just wanted to say thanks for promoting safety in your work, its not that you dont want to be safe (you can see that you care simply by making the guide to begin with) it's just the 'ignorant' or fauxtographers who might perceive things incorrectly as they dont know any better & attempt silly things. :)

Rachel, anyway I would say, impressive comment! If I'd have money, I'd surely buy your book. Your way to response simply deserve this. Maybe you don't believe, but I really respect you!
