General TalksAll about allWhat is the point banning copyright fiction?

09 Feb 2011, 04:24

I cannot understand the point. When there are thousands of threads posted about copyrighted software and movies, what does this gesture signify.

If every other thing posted on Asta is a violation of copyright, what will we gain by banning fiction content which is volume and economic wise so minute. I mean an e-book costs around $5-$20 whereas a single copy of Windows 7 Professional alone starts from $299.9 .

Please some explain this discrimination here in Asta. I thought Asta was the most free, tolerating and open forum here. It is still, but these things really confuse me.

I really liked the Fiction releases here and all the discussions that took plce. It is just hard to accept its all gone.

What if one day they remove the entire Windows applications or Movies section? I think it is possible even if remotely.

... i feel like i just love my best friend!!! :(:(:( now astatalk is never the same without the fiction section. tho i understand the feelings of the authors since im writing a manuscript myself and i would be pissed if people are reading it for free but accepting it doesnt mean that im happy!!!!! >< besides, i thought astatalk is an 'underground' forum where all the black market is taking place -.- but yeah im trying to get over it

[rant]I must say that this 'getting over it' has been harder for me thought it would be. I am trying to find a new community even if it's just to read about other books so that I can buy them, but I am coming up empty finding one where I can respond to anyone... this blows. [/rant]

i tried another community but they blow balls. i tried demonoid - hate torrents. tried viprasys - was there for what?2?3 days?now i'm banned hehehe - apparently i post too much. wtf! should have stayed home (asta) in the first place...now i'm in "prodigal son" mode. 2 good things came out of the closing of the fiction section (for me, that is..) 1.i've read and edited nearly 70 books in my TBE (to-be edited) folder, and 2. i've read twice as much from my TBR folder..the books are no longer sitting there, forgotten.

I've also tried other communities and they seriously left something to be desired. Nothing but crap ebooks, not a bestseller in sight. I hate torrents so I'm still looking for a replacement.... ps. I tried viprasys. The mods are crazy and their rules are ridiculous!

Oh, what's wrong with torrent? Are you unable to connect or download quickly or something? Demonoid has replaced Asta for me...and for the better actually. Change was hard, but now I'm back in book heaven. =D

To think it other way, since books are cheaper compare to softwares, it would not hurt much to buy them instead of downloading. Moreover it would be respectful to the authors if you truly enjoyed the books.

@ jybs7411: I discovered several great authors here that I would later purchase from. But without Asta I would not have even known about them. I am sure there are authors I still don't and will not know about, and thus will not buy from. I tried few "review" sites but it is too much effort to distinguish between marketing and review. It is very different from being able to download the title from Asta, read it, and if I like it, purchase new works. The author misses on the first sale, but recoups it on future sales. I have several authors flagged as day-one purchase. That, however, was possible mainly because I was able to not waste money by downloading titles via Asta that looked promising but ultimately not something I liked.
