Do you know that you can install AHCI feature in windows 7 after OS is installed?
Normally you would enable AHCI prior to OS installation. But Windows 7 changed that...
The Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI) makes Native Command Queuing (NCQ) along with "hot plugging" or hot swapping through SATA host controllers possible. The AHCI feature will improve Read/Write speed of the hard disk. The issue with AHCI is it needs to be enabled in BIOS prior to OS installation. But with Windows 7 its eay to enable AHCI - AFTER OS installation.
Here goes:
1. Open regedit (type regedit in the search field).
2 Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\msahci.
3. In the right pane right-click Start and Modify....
4. change the value from 3 to 0 and close regedit.
Important: you must restart the computer after this.
When restarting hit Del to enter BIOS (most motherboards use Del to enter BIOS but it can be something else, so do what it takes to enter your BIOS),
In Main window go to Storage Configuration and change "Configure SATA as IDE" to AHCI.
Hit F10 Save and Reboot.
When rebooting it will hang for 20 second (registering the AHCI feature). When entering Desktop Windows will install drivers for AHCI, when done reboot once again.
For further enhancement install the latest Chipset drivers. It will install the latest SATA AHCI Controller driver. Reboot when done.
Now you can enjoy faster Read/Write speed - eSATA feature, hotswapping etc.
THIS IS ONLY FOR WINDOWS 7
