General TalksAll about allMegaupload/Fileserve/Filesonic All Gone......More to come??

McLEAN, Virginia (AP) — Federal prosecutors have shut down one of the world's largest file-sharing sites, Megaupload.com, and charged its founder and others with violating piracy laws.

The indictment accuses the company of costing copyright holders more than $500 million in lost revenue from pirated films and other content. The indictment was unsealed Thursday, one day after websites shut down in protest of two congressional proposals intended to thwart the online piracy of copyrighted movies and TV programs.

Megaupload.com has claimed it is diligent in responding to complaints about pirated material.

The indictment says at one point, Megaupload was the 13th most popular website in the world.

.
Filesrerve & Filesonic have now banned the sharing of files.

You can only upload to them and retrieve your own files.

Sharing of files is becoming very difficult.

Bad days indeed

no effect on this asta as this is not uploading site. this is only forum where members refer/mention/share the information [searched link of uploading sites]. if there is no uploading[downloading] link, there is no sharing here.

we do not host any files or sharing files here, so no effect.

Actually the affect I have noticed on Asta is the newer links that are used for downloading. These sites have about half the speed (for the free downloads) of the ones that have shut down sharing. It's frustrating, but other than buying a premium account (not wise right now), what else can you do but put up with the horrible download times.

Megaupload hunt was a join forces of few police agencies against one man that has so much fraud records it's amazing he is still out of jail. Thatwas the only way other countries will agree to help American copy right lawyers and agencies. The owner of Mehaupload wass in jail in at least three different countries and he is still wanted for fraud in Germany, Hong Kong and God knows where else.

The best course share sites can do is to register their name outside the US (like demonoid, Pirate Bay and such) and to keep the servers in a few locations, mainly Scandinavian countries, Russia and other East European countries (not France or Italy that have even worse laws than the US).

There is definitely a lot of sharing of copy righted files but there are many more files that are shared legally. All that should stay and it will. I have no doubt that other file sharing sites will sprung up with more sophisticated and better ways to share knowledge, ideas and information.
