There seems to be major change in Scene's video release now, they are killing XviD and bringing MP4 i.e H264 or x264. There was discussion between Scene since last six months or so, now it's finally implemented. What will be it's impact, in short tell you better Audio and Video quality in smaller size. In simple language I tell you, there will .mp4 format instead of .avi, well they are different containers .mp4 far better than .avi.

They might have considered:

1. Technology
2. Support
3. Development
4. Device support
5. Might be others

.avi and .mp4 are just containers but have major difference in quality.
AVI released by Microsoft in 1992 is almost at stand still and if we say no furher
we might not be wrong where as MP4 with two versions 2001 and 2003, gives
better quality in smaller size say .mp4:.avi::1:1.33. Alog with these avi only
supports MP3 and AC3 where as .mp4 has very wide range and with the
tremendous increase in handled device which supports .mp4, round the globe
and growing popularity of the Scene might also be the factor.
