I am DancingTiger creator of the Asta Book Club. I am a declared book geek and proud of it! Remarkably enough I have never really know a lot of readers, so I always try to foist fantastic books on people who really don't care. Now I will foist them on you! I got my joy of reading from my mother, she is a declared harlequin format reader only. I ripped through her collection before I was 13, half time time It went over my head, then when I got to the so called romance part of my life I was really disappointed.
I enjoy books because they can take my mind even when it is drowning in pain and transport me into a meditative like calm and keep me there as long as the book is good. I enjoy historical fiction with accurate facts mixed with imagination. I love fantasy, and always wanted my own baby dragon, or to find out I'm the lost child of elves as a child. Paranormal fiction is really fun, especially when it is blended into our world so well, you sit and wonder sometimes, what if... I love books that make me think and stick around in your mind long after you finished. I enjoy classic literature the language is enticing and the characters and storys are so different from today. To be honest I just love books period.
I cant wait to read your suggestions, it is always wonderful to have other people share with you their most loved books. It brings a different light to the story as you read it.
So Asta Book Club members ( A B C , lol ) introduce yourselves, no worries personal infomation is optional. Tell us of you love of books and what you enjoy the most.

My dream job would be working with the special collections, studying and taking care of old manuscripts or folios in the libraries & universities of London, Rome, Washington, and other such places. But I'd settle for just being a librarian or working in a bookstore. If I won the lottery, I'd design my home to have its own private library complete with fireplace, rolling ladders, & spiral staircases (think Disney's Beauty & the Beast).
Books are my safe havens, my teachers, my time-machines, my portals to other worlds/realities, and my windows to the minds, hearts, and souls of human beings. I admit to enjoying the escapist qualities of fiction, but I will occasionally delve into non fiction and the classics. I appreciate more being able to explore the finer nuances hidden within a text to reveal deeper themes and social issues.
My tastes run the whole gamut, from mystery, to romance, sci-fi, fantasy & horror, to the classics. I tentatively approach scientific theory, religious texts, and politics, but with a little motivation and some help from others, I can manage to get through them. However, I'm thoroughly addicted to romance. I love reading about the quirky foibles of relationships. I can cry with the best of them, and it's satisfying to read a good book that makes you feel that deep ache, the yearning in the pit of your stomach, for something good and honest and heartfelt.
I'm very excited to be able to meet and talk with everyone and I'm eagerly awaiting our future discussions.
if anyone checked my profile you already know... my name is Anamarija (it's pronounced as if there is no j in my name) and I'm 18 years old... and in two weeks I'll be out of high school..
I love to read... Always have... Since I've learned how to read at the age of 5...
As some of the others have said I'm book geek and I don't quite fit in with other people since they don't share my passion for books, but finding other people who likes to read as much as I do is rare so I'm glad that I've found you all...
I've read a lot of books... From Homer (Iliad & Odyssey), Fyodor Mikhaylovich Dostoyevsky (Crime and Punishment), Émile François Zola (Germinal), William Shakespeare (Romeo and Juliet & Hamlet), Dante Alighieri, Edgar Allan Poe and a lot of other authors whose books have changed view of literature... and also a lot of Croatia authors, because that's my mother tongue, and we had to read their books in school (but now I'm glad I did)...
In last year I've read a lot of books on English from historical romance to paranormal fiction, young adults and non fictional books...and it's impossible to say which one is better...
I'm glad that I've found this site, so I'm able to download books which I wouldn't be able to read, because they are not published in my country...
I'm Avid, and I am a readeroholic. I blame my mother for this particular addiction as she was the one who taught me to read by accident ( well she claims it was by accident- she was apparently trying to teach my elder brother to read, and instead taught me) Since then I just read anything I could get my grubby paws on, including all her catherine cookson and ( the shame) Barbara Cartland's she used to read. When I was little all my pocket money was saved up to buy books, and people would be given a list of must have's to buy for christmas and birthday's - nothing has changed there really I still do it... Recently because the children have grown up we downsized to a little cottage, and so I desperately need to downsize my book collection which is currently in storage. But it's really hard trying to decide which books I can't possibly part with. But beloved hubby assures me if he ever finds a suitcase full of money he will build me my library.
I am Bree - I been a readeroholic for about 11 years now. LOL!! I got put on bed rest with my first baby and let me tell you 11 years ago there was NOTHING on tv, soooooo, I read and read and did I mention I read!!!! Lets just say once you read one you just can't stop until there all gone..LOL I haven't yet seen the end of the bag!! I will read anything with an HEA!! If it doesn't have that forget it!!!! I deal with enough real life on a daily basis I need my books to be good guy ALWAYS gets his girl!!! Other than that, well anything goes..
But reading romance came form a friend of mine, younger than me[I'm 19], when she made me read somthing, I don't remember what, but in Spanish(they were English writers but transtaed in Spanish)... I still try to make my friends read now
I am so glad that I found other people who enjoy reading as much as I do
found a group that addict to books like me. *grin* btw, my name is eira. 25th years old and still a lot of books left to be read by me. never ending list eventhou i've been read for as long as i can remember. always bring a book (at least 1) with me everywhere i go. as for my books, just love them. fantasy, sci-fi, historical, thriller, and the list go on. need to read. dont care if people say that i'm a worm. hahahaha.. and also, if i dont read, i will make my own story in my head. crazy? dont think so.. just love for my head to be in the cloud. but dont judge me as ignorance. i know what happen around me. books is my first love! sorry, everybody in my life can take other places that vacant. fyi, english is not my 1st language so i keep reading english books to enhance my vocabulary and i found many great books in asta. really lucky to stumble upon this site. my great escape because in my country, foreign books cost me a fortune so i think i always lucky.. 1 particular experience that i always love to revisit is...
in my school, we hv literature subject (my mother tongue is malay) and most of my friends hate requirement book. just because i am the first 1 that finished the book, they make me tell the story instead of read it by themselves. so funny and hilarious when the teacher ask, looks like me the only one that understood the whole story. hahahaha.. so, readerholic, worms, geeks etc., feel free to contact me on my email: eira1010@yahoo.com. love to hear news from u all. happy reading!
I am ADDICTED to reading books, have been since I was a little kid! If I have the time I would read 24/7 and as it is I already read 3-4 books per day (sometimes more depending on the length) if I have a day off! When I read I get so involved in a book that when people talk to me I will know they are saying something but it will take me a few minutes to realise that they are talking to me and then I have to ask them to repeat what they are saying!
I am a history student, in New Zealand, but I cannot stand reading historical books, just a little quirk of mine (can't stand historical movies either!). I read a lot of romance books - I always enjoy seeing how people interact within their relationships and how they make it work. I read nearly any sort of romance, particularly enjoying the paranormal and fantasy romance, military/alpha male romance as well as the bdsm aspects and the multiple partners.
My quirk when reading series is that I won't read the series if it is about the same character =) A lot of people have suggested reading the Sookie Stackhouse novels but I can't pick them up due to the fact that the books revolve around her the entire time! I do read a series if it is focusing on the same group of people but in each book there are different main characters i.e. Midnight Breed series and Black Dagger Brotherhood series (which are two of my favourite series!!)
=)
I am a voracious romance reader. For me if I was given 24 hours to read, it is not enough. I like to read round the clock, hate sleeping or eating. All free time is spent reading & reading. My aim in life was to be a librarian or become a bookshop owner, but unfortunately I had to give up that dream.
I love to read Harlequins, Historical / Regency / Medieval Romance stories.
