I have a large variety of music in my collection. I like all kinds of genre's, but always default back to Bad Religion w/Pennywise as a close second. Bad Religion has guided me through many of tough times w/there lyrics. Pennywise... I have known personally on several occassions back when they were still doing very small venues (early 1990's stuff). Got some major insite about there lyrics that way.
Just wondering what drives other people!!
Please give a reason why they are your go-to band. Music is the driving force of our lives. Someone out there feels the same way you do and these artists are expressing the emotions we all want to express, but aren't sure how to. Let's give them some props!!!
P.S.. Youngn's are welcome to goin the conversation if you've only been serious about music for a couple of years!!

I have all genres of music in my collection. Music ranging from
Classical, Pop, Rock, Metal, Dance, Indie, you name it, I have it!
The only genre I cannot get into, is RAP/Hip Hop.
The artists that always draw me back though, are Pink Floyd.
The Pink Floyd with Waters, Gilmour, Mason and Wright is my
favourite line-up. Although the Barrett years were interesting
and way way ahead of their time.
I also have aa affection for Weezer.
Rivers Cuomo is an awsome song writer.
Every one of their albums are classics.
I cannot listen to any of their music without raising a smile.
The music is so infectious.
Around 330 or so Vinyl Albums:
Around 240 or so Tape Cassetes:
Around 430 or so CD's
And about 138 Gigs worth or so on my PC & Laptop.
And growing daily!
My collection is much like cwmboi's. Although most of mine has been transfered to a HD(about 250GB's worth). Due to the fact that I had to move a lot. Much eisier transport than hundreds of LP's, cassettes, 8-tracks and CD's. Vinyl still rules and I will start rebuiling that collection now that I am settled.
Keep jammin' guys!! Music has the power to tranform and sooth even the most savage of beasts!
my first love to METAL scene when i was at senior high school ;D
until now 10 years after, im still pure METALHEAD and have so many collection metal album, but still, my first love HELLOWEEN would be the band that i love most
HAIL TO METAL and GERMANY METAL OLD SCHOOL...
regards , LORDI
Once again the lyrics just seem to suit any mood or frame of mind i'm in.
Just what I need when I'm feeling pissed off.
Btw. Did you see the film "Control" about Ian Curtis? If not you HAVE to do it as a JD Fan! The film is really expressive. Ian throw it all away at the age of just 22 years! very sad indeed!
Joy Division (Ian Curtis)wrote about the social decay that was taking hold of the UK in the late 70's. A depressing place, but just lyrics that are true to life and pull no punches.
As for Control, it's the best thing that I've seen for years. Brilliant.
Think of Joy Division's lyrics as inspiring, not depressing!!!!!!!!
He lived only 22 years, but his memory will last a lifetime.
beside the lyrics, the music of the closer album is quiet depressive to me (or more sad if you like this term better). to me it´s impossible or better said not a good idea to listen to this when i´m in a bad mood!
and sorry but i see it differently: IC WAS depressive because of his physical problems and the social situation he lived in, so his lyrics are a part of him and his feelings. you can see it very close in the film imo.
but anyway, great band, incredible singer (could not believe that the voice i was listening to were so young!!!!), everlasting music and lyrics. so thank you ian, well done!
I first discovered Bloodhound Gang with "Fire Water Burn." Instantly I like Jimmy Pop's vocal talent, and the music just made me happy. I bought their CD "One Fierce Beer Coaster" and have been a die hard BHG fan ever since. Have not found a song by them that I haven't like yet.
Metallica is a different story. Discovered them back in 1995-1996ish, And Justice For All was the first album I heard, and One was the first song. Hooked instantly. They have changed through the years, and I liked the change up until St. Anger. That album just had nothing in it like the old Metallica. Then the newest album succeeded mostly with recapturing what made them great.
But my absolute favourite was, is and always will be DAVID BOWIE. I still get goosebumps remembering one of his shows a couple of years back. After performing a complete show of about 115 minutes he returned back on stage to perform the entire "Low" album!!!
Also very high on my list are the recently reunited FAITH NO MORE. I saw them about a month ago live in Berlin. Although their music is being criticized as not being up to date anymore I still think they rock...and Mike Pattons voice is just.....WOW!!!!!!
I can highly recommend seeing TINDERSTICKS live. Their performance is so beautiful you'll cry.
Pink Floyd because it's relaxing and I can just zone out and let the music move through me.
GWAR-Good for a laugh or if I'm in a particularly brutal mood. I know the guys in the band and they're pretty awesome people, on top of being decent musicians.
Bad Religion-The lyrics are moving and make you want to be active and change the world.
The Cure-Wonderful music, moving lyrics, sometimes their songs can say what I can't.
Killswitch Engage-Again, love their sound, the lyrics do touch on some emotions that sometimes cannot be conveyed otherwise.
So my needy fall backs are-[realy cant cut down more sorry!
