step 1. Lauch Windows Task Manager.
step 2. End wgatray.exe process in Task Manager.
step 3. Restart Windows XP in Safe Mode.
step 4. Delete WgaTray.exe from c:\Windows\System32.
step 5. Delete WgaTray.exe from c:\Windows\System32\dllcache.
step 6. Lauch RegEdit.
step 7. Browse to the following location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify
step 8. Delete the folder ‘WgaLogon’ and all its contents
then Reboot Windows XP..

i have a problem, iam usin winXP- the black 5.0 Version for about 1 and a half year now without problems, and since 1 week now i have this "Windows Genuine Advantage Notification" in my tray and i tried your patch but it doesnt work for me;
i heard that with one of the last updates by MS they updated the WGA Notification aand i think iam a victim of this update, having no idea how to solve this sh.., maybe u know how to do?
i would be very thankful man

First two can be removed with a little bit of effort, but the third one is harder to get rid of as it is always loaded at startup by Winlogon.
You can boot to external environment (eg. Live CD or second OS if you have) and remove it. Or use some sort of WGA fixer (but they might not remove all WGA files).
Pirate Windows users should turn off Automatic Updates or set it to manual installation to avoid installing WGA again.
