Im shocked too about that site. (and as it looks many users too)

Actualy im a webdeveloper and like this site VERY VERY much. If you want i can code a complete new forum with enhanced features which provides exactly whatever you want it to have. Will take me some weeks, guess 3-4 for a working stage plus another 2-3 for an admin-interface and a good template.
Interrested?

Because im missing these features:
1. posting a game will create a new game entry under games. You can actualy select topics which the game fits into (shooter, rpg etc) (same with all other stuff like music, movies, etc).
2. every post has a posibility to collect links and even check them if they are ok. So you can easy add new links which will become automaticaly part of the first post so you dont have to scroll all over the topic. dead topics cause of dead links will automaticaly put into a "dead stuff" category, so some1 can reupload that sometimes or let it rot Smile
3. The posibility to add multi-language stuff! Imagine uploading a game in english, so some1 can add the links for the german version, and some1 for the french version. They will be like "tabs" in differend languages.
4. Cracks, Patches, Serials etc will have an own category BUT can be linked to the software if the topic exists. So you automaticaly have a perfect sorted uptodate "forum" for everyone.
5. you can post comments like posts under each thing. Wink
6. you can let email yourself for each download in a specific category if you are interested.

Thats what i got in mind, but i can code whatever you want. as long you dont want a 3d-engine for the browser xD

EDIT: i just created a smal layout, not complete, but a small impression to what i think would fit more than this new site.

Agreed with you Ice! The design of the new forum should be reworked too! Hope that everything will be arranged soon. However I like the new asta forum feel, it reminds me of the early days of computers Smile

And I join Ice, I can create graphics for the forum if needed! I think that a lot of us will help you if you ask us to!

took a look at yor prevue, very nice and slick. Very WEB2.0
good work on the preview.

One thing w have to remember too is that it is FOR SURE that Gravedigger and the Ghosts are hellova programmers and GFXer's. It is still new and will take a few days, (if not weeks) to get everything up and running.

I personally and kepping final judgement unitl Asta v3 is up and running with all new features fully implimented. Then I will decide if I stay of go.

Nodoubt the concept of the new site is good..
But recreating at this point of time maybe a tough job .
The changes are needed without doubt but that needs to be done on this 1 .
Another webpage cannot be created now.
I guess..

I'm usualy no designer, i only program websites all day long. (xhtml, css, jquery, php, mysql). I dont say we just should put something together now and voila all is fine, but more to create that website under a url like astatalk.com/development/ which can be used for testing till its ready.
i would NOT use any "as-it-is-sript", means coding everything from scratch new. that gives me the possibility to create exactly every feature we need for this.

Actualy i see this on focuses:
1. we mostly talk about specific things like a specific movie, game etc. So it should be capable to create more "topics" to one object like "feedback" "help" etc.
2. You should be able to find most things quickly and clear. No 40 Threads about photoshop cs4 as example. You simply search photoshop, click on it and there you are. Above you get information, links etc. Below there can be multiple "chats" (just like forum posts but grouped into multiple talks) about it.
3. The layout should be something you look at, you understand quickly and give you the posibility to see exctly what you want to know. No more "look at page5 of this topic for links" or "hey, is this multilanguage" or "where are the mirrors"

About the features:
1. Uploading images directly via this site is no problem can be included easily. i would prefer taking a second server for this so the load does not go up. matching images.astatalk.com to another ip and after upload moving the picture there via a ssh-tunnel. voila.
2. I realy like web2.0 and ajax stuff. Not to many "bling bling" but at points like "adding a post" or sorting the topics by date/name etc you dont have to reload the whole site. You can just change the website "inline".

I can continue on the layout (which is maybe at 10% ready) in about 8 Hours or 9. But some feedback / ideas for this would be nice.

Ah and at last: i do NOT want to say "all work for the new forum is useless" this is just an alternative which can be build by sides. And even if its not accepted, this script can perfectly be set open source somewhere online as a new kind of forum.

A bit more finalized. Think its about 90% now. Missing only small tweaks.

basically the new one is a search engine with software links and not a forum.

it lets me remember the torrents site.

I think a lot of good stuff from the old forums need to be implemented in the new one to make it a complete forum.

Yeah, any ideas whats missing? Its possible to create multiple topics below to a piece of software/album etc.

What im think about is how i implement:
1. Requests of stuff
2. Normal "chat-forums" without a specific topic.

I think i will draw some more layouts for the other sites. this one only shows the software part.

I don't see why we're wasting time discussing a new layout. This one is perfect.

IMO this is just gravedigger wagging his e-peen over the fact he made a forum software.

well, i doo like the current forum layout but icereapers's layout seem VERY helpfull, i wonder how you would categorizer the masive amounts of typs of software though. im not a proffesional gfxer, nor a coder, nor a web designer, but im saying this would realy help, you could split asta into two websitess too, usiing the same usernames and passwords, like two windows to the same house. Smile

great job on the design
