I came across this forum recently and found it to be awesome for my never ending search for new games and programs. I have been so thrilled to find games that actually work and don't have a virus attached to them. There have been several downloads I couldn't get to work... but that could just be me not doing something right. But overall, most of them have worked perfectly.
I am trying to understand all the lingo people use around here (it's a bit advanced for my computer knowledge), so please bare with my ignorance. I have so many questions, but I am afraid to post them because I don't want to irritate people with too many questions.
I am learning to navigate my way through some of the stuff. But right now I just wanted to say that I don't want to be a leech.... so I have been going through my software to see if I have anything that hasn't already been posted here by someone else. I might have a few things I can share once I figure out how to do it.
I just want to know if I will be in danger of being banned if I don't have as much to contribute compared to what I download?? I have a lot of stuff... but it's already on this forum posted by someone else. |

You won't be banned for that mate. Don't worry. Lots of people don't post anything at all. If it's already posted, you could upload it to a different file host. Links are sometimes taken down by the file host's admins (they notice it is warez/music/film etc) so a new link is needed or the thread will be dumped in the Graveyard. A mirror (this is what it is called when you upload it again) would be very helpful in this case.
Lastly, don't be afraid to ask questions.
LOTS of us are willing to help out! |

I just find it a bit hard to navigate around this forum at times. I look for all the rules to get familiar with them so I will be in compliance but I've gotten lost a few times...lol.
It is a bit intimidating browsing around here because some people are a bit "harsh." And there's so much talk about being banned for this and banned for that and the whole "thank you" button thing.
I tried to thank someone for their share but I only had the "quote" button for some odd reason... so I sent that person a reply thanking them... which in retrospect was probably not the right thing to do according to the rules. So, I'm just feeling my way around and trying to get more familiar with all the rules and maybe learn a few personalities.
And I can't wait to get past the phase where I have to type in that awful confirmation code. I think I see it clearly and type it in and at least once or twice it tells me it's incorrect and gives me another one...lol. That is very time consuming and annoying, but I understand why they have it in place.
Thanks for the kindness, and maybe I'll get the hang of this soon. I am going to make it a point this weekend to try and learn how to do the whole "upload" thing and the other stuff you had suggested with mirrors or something like that. |

Welcome to asta, Nancy2394
You might find this thread helpful in becoming more familiar with the different sections of asta.
http://www.astatalk.com/viewtopic.php?t=192629
Most members break a rule or more often. This is to be expected and especially with new members, so dont worry much there if you do.
In each section of asta there might be a sticky or announcement with rules for that section of asta. If you see no sticky or announcement in a section then you only need to follow asta's main rules rules
http://www.astatalk.com/viewtopic.php?t=2
Some rules or confirmation code may seem time consuming or annoying, but these are in place to save on spam. The confirmation code will no longer be needed after a few posts.
So try not to worry much and enjoy asta |

I have been reading the sticky threads and the rules. And I am thoroughly enjoying this forum.... I feel like a little kid in a candy store with the endless amounts of downloads of awesome stuff. I just wish I had more to contribute... actually, I have yet to contribute because I am learning the ropes, at least trying to. There's hope for me yet..lol. I will figure it out, it just might take me a little bit.
I can't thank all of you guys that share your stuff, it's WONDERFUL. |

Name's Taq'shan. T'is a pleasure to meet you. Welcome to Asta, Nancy. I hope you like it here. I used to be a leech and then when they went to having people register, I registered as soon as I could as I love the selection here on Asta. It was also the first 'Underground' site I ever signed up for. Asta is by far, the best Underground site I know of. What you cannot find here, ask for and I am 100% certain we *us members* can find it for you. AS for asking too many questions, the only stupid questions are the ones not asked, so ask away, m'lady. As for learning the ropes, give a few days and you will be moving like a pro around here. As for people being harsh, it is nothing major as they might be just having a bad day or something. I have yet to see anyone be a total jerk over something. |

I'm new here too...just like Nancy, I'm totally intimidated by this forum!!! I have no idea where the "thanks" button is?? I also don't have any links (is that like for my website?) I did make a post in the ebooks forum yesterday when I joined offering to share some stuff I have.
I think this forum is great in terms of varieties, and I'll be looking forward to exploring it.
BTW, I'm from Bangkok, Thailand. [/code][/hide]

Welcome to the best place on the web, peeps. Ask any questions you may have at any time and I can guarantee someone will help you out as soon as possible.
While it may seem intimidating at first, all of the forums and sub-forums will seem rather elementary when their structure finally dawns on you; I had the DUH moment myself.
Sit back, relax, and enjoy the world of technology at your fingertips.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled surfing. |

And just to add - interms of your question regarding the Thank You buttons, they are located at the "Top Right Hand Corner" of every single post (right beside the "Quote" buttons).
Welcome to Asta. |

The only time you will not see a thanks button is in your own post.
the thanks button in others posts is in the upper right hand corner.
If you you feel lost or would like some help you may pm me.
I am always willing to help out,yes there are some people that seem to be harsh.
I just noticed in another thread a newbie who was slightly flaming another newbie, about mistakes he had made.
I was going to post a link to the rule about flaming and putting down others for him, thats when I noticed your posts. |
