Created by Tesla coils --a type of resonant transformer circuit invented by Nikola Tesla around 1891--, its fascinating sparks come from discharges of very high voltage, low current, high frequency alternating current electricity. Until the 1920s, Tesla coil circuits were used commercially in sparkgap radio transmitters for wireless telegraphy, and in electrotherapy and quack medical devices such as violet ray; today, their main use is entertainment and educational displays.
In that spirit, Australia's Peter Terren built a fully functional Tesla Coil in his back garden and has become an "artist of electricity" since, creating fascinating photographs using long exposure and a lot of creativity.
Meet Terren's High-Voltage Sculptures.
ENJOY!!!

wow
any idea whats the voltage amount being applied?
That looks cool, but even a slight mistake can be deadly
I have seen smaller ones but this is BIG
I really am excited to know the value of voltage.
hey can u gve me a link to his complete article/experiment page?
I would really love to know abt the technical things of this. |

ROFL, that will cost him double than what it will cost him if the car gets stolen
+that coil can't sustain that effect forever.
I am sure only a few seconds or max a couple minutes. |

Guess what I am thinking of making a project like this.
Might not be this big, but big enough
Hopefully my college will give me the fund for this, 90% chances that they will
but you never know
I hope that will
If I make, Ill post pics of it surely. |

This thing is risky but it is so much fun, imagine us playing with it
I am gonna light tubes wirelessly, create artifical lighting + sound
and I am gonna burn CD's with it xD
and there is so much fun
I just cant wait
it was a bit costly but we managed it
We are a group of 4 students working on it |
