Heya, I was wondering if its possible for the views per topic to be limited to 1 per person... eg, instead of someone visiting a topic 5 times and upping the views 5 times, they visit 5 times but the views only go up 1 time. (hope I'm making sense?) Because as I see it some people could take advantage of it as it is, like refresh their topic a hundred times to make it more popular or something.
it's a small thing imho, but what do you think? |

Sounds like it would increase requests to the servers (requesting IP address) which would generally make the forums a bit slower. To be honest, I rarely look at the views, I just click threads which sound good, or have a few comments. |

| it gets popular by replies, not views, no one really cares about the amount of views. |

sometimes a topic is so good described so you dont need to post a reply.
but each logged in user has an ID, so you can use this ID in a table like:
user_id | topic_id
now you make both fields together unique.
Last thing is when getting the info: "select count"
When viewing simply do "insert into" it does nothing when already there. And voila, problem solved. |
