vindic8tor I'm not quite sure why it didn't work for you, but perhaps a refresher on how to search will help:

Note: I've never, in the history of my tenure on Asta, had the search not work. Maybe user error? Not sure.
But I do appreciate you trying the search and reporting your own thread. It benefits all.
Note: "who" won't work in the search, but "Who's next" will ... you just have to be specific.
anyways, no worries. You're doing fine. |

Klean - Just now, I made 4 searches:
the who and who in music downloads.
the who and who in all available.
I figured that oughta cover it, ya know, the KISS method. I just tried motley crue in music d/l and all available - 9 returns in both. Then I tried just motley in both and got 11 returns. Whaddup with that?
Just ramones returns 5, as does the ramones. But who doesnt work. I very co-fused.
This is the return I got every time!
This what I did before I posted my link. I was thinking "Damn, no Who albums??" So I posted the link. What am I missing?
Apparently, the engine acting up is not such a rare occurence-

There have been times when I've prepped something to post, uploaded it, got an image to go with it, uploaded that, and just before I posted, it dawns on me that I didnt search first. So I search and sure enough, there it is already - at that point, all my work goes into the bit bucket. Oh well, thats what I get for not searching first. That only had to happen once for me to learn that lesson.
Anyway, thanks for moving my post to the original thread instead of deleting it. |

Yeah it has to be a really exact search term to bring up results, best thing to do is search
the who*
with the * and you get plenty of results. |

If you typed a word that get too many hits, there will be "no results".
For example, type "Vista" .. Too many to list.
But type "Crue" ... you get hits.
Think about it. "Vista" is in typed many times.
But, "Crue" is typed a lot less. Same with "Motley" is typed a lot less than "Vista"
That is why the staff asked members to include the album name (or version # for software) in the topic - usually, there is a word that is very specific.
If you get "no results" usually that means that the word has been typed so many times, you will never find the thread you are looking for (because you would have to go through 30 pages or more).
So you get a message that is basically telling you to try again... Just not in as many words.
To be specific, I type "Who's" and limited to Music Downloads - got 2 hits.
But you could also look at it a different way, if you know a weird word in a song title, you could put that in, limit it down to Music Downloads and search "Only Text".
Granted, it is a bit of work, but it is helpful. For example, say you posted something about winRAR in the Software and Hardware Discussions forum but did not put "winRAR" in the title, you can find your post by typing winRAR, limiting it down to Software and Hardware Discussions, putting your name in the author and search "only text".
Complicated, but you get results.
Lastly, say you just want to see the posts someone has replied to you. If you just type in your name in the "Search for Author" you get all the posts you posted and the to show if someone has replied.
The search has many functions and is very powerful. |
